Local Films
WellnessJake Mahaffy is an emerging film-maker, with local roots. His grandfather, Roger Mahaffy owned and operated Mahaffy's Gun Shop, on Egypt Hollow Road, near Scandia. Consequently, Jake made a short film, entitled, "Egypt Hollow" (1996), based on his childhood memories of Warren County. Jake has received grants from Creative Capital and the Guggenheim Foundation, and was awarded the first Lynn Auerbach Screenwriting Fellowship by the Sundance Institute. Jake's films have been shown in festivals worldwide, and he was designated as one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” in 2005.
Other Jake Mahaffy films made locally include:

"WAR" (2004) - WAR took nearly 5 years to film. It was filmed, using a hand-cranked camera with black & white film. All sound was added during editing. The cast consisted of Andy Yurick, Dustin Berch, Paul Mahaffy (Jake's father), Sherri Anderson, Jeff Clark, and Peppy the dog. Local producer is Will Weatherby. WAR has shown at Edinburgh, Atlanta, Stockholm, Jeonju, Calgary, Galway, Rotterdam, Sundance and other festivals...

"Wellness" (2007) - Wellness is currently screening worldwide, with the North American premiere in Austin, Texas, and the World premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The film continues to win awards, including a Best Actor award for the central character, played by Jeff Clark. The cast consists of Jeff Clark, as a sad-sack salesman with an affinity for hornet's nests, and Paul Mahaffy, as an explosive and bullying Wellness company representative. Thomas Lindsey (Clark) signs away $20,000 through a pyramid scheme, selling Wellness, a product that doesn't exist, hoping to live the American dream, while being prodded along by Wellness' merciless Paul Stubbs (Mahaffy).
