We moved away from Pa in 1964 and have never stopped missing it. We use to have a camp on Morrison Run and came to Warren every sunday for Mass. Loved the river and remember how it was before the dam was built. Fished in Kinzua creek near the confluence with the Allegheny and caught many native brookies in Morrison run when I was a boy. Will always love Warren. :-) :-)

Hi Fran,

I read your post about fishing in the Allegheny River. I remember as a kid I use to fish on the Hickory Bridge and set on the cement railing and thinking I was a big guy, lol. A large carp grabbed a hold of my line and off I went. It seemed like I fell two miles down, my whole, rather short life passed before me and was I ever shook, lol. It wasn't really that deep in those days, but I can still remember the smell of that water, yuck! Anyway, I did stay with that carp, got him to the bank and dragged my all the way home down St. Clair Street toward the playground and did I ever get it when I

came home wet, lol.

Oh the memories.

I hope someone will reply to this. I'll start checking the site at least once a week.

b(^) I was raised in Warren, have been away for a long time (35 years). My husband and I are moving back to Warren in July 2011 to retire and enjoy life. I just can't wait, we are so excited and happy to be back. Warren is a special place, beautiful scenery, nice people, and the most wonderful opportunity to enjoy small town living that I have ever known.

I fist arrived in Warren August 09 to escape the hot summers down south. The other reason was to research a native maple located here for it’s ornamental value.

I was looking for Acer pensylvanicum, which is a snakebark maple. There are about 20 species of these Asiatic maples. Acer pensylvanicum is the only member of its family to live out side of Asia.

It is said to be difficult to transplant which is true if you don’t know how to do it. The tree enjoys a humus rich soil, is very shade tolerant and it likes good draining soil. Well in that regard, I don’t know many plants that don’t like good drainage. However, because it is a native, being born here and live right down the road it can be planted most anywhere. I think it is a much better selection then the common Bradford pear or Pyrus calleryana seen everywhere. That tree is not in the same league as the snakebarks, nor the most hansom Acer pensylvanicum .

The Bradford Pear is considered an invasive species and should not be used.

Acer pensylvanicum has been honored twice by the Royal Botanical Gardens because of its outstanding beauty, use and versatility in the landscape.

When transplanted as a seedling it grows quickly and would make itself the center of attraction in any garden in a few years, well say seven years. It takes two years to remove any tree from the forest, the fist year the roots need to be pruned, the second year the tree can be dug and transplanted, soil temperature should not be higher then 50 degrees, when pruning roots or transplanting. To note: some of the trees in the forest are infected with a mild fungal infection but it is easily remedied. If you have a tree that shows any bark discoloration drop me a line and we can fix dat.

Here area a couple of link to pictures that I took here summer 09.

Oh yea, I am still in the Warren area. It is very nice here, much cooler which makes it just right temperature for digging nice big hole to plant trees in. It takes me from three hours to three week to plant one tree.

I too was born and raised in Beautiful Downtown Warren. It's a great place. We visit it often... we now call it The Old Country. The restaurant you're trying to think of was called, I believe, Texas Lunch. The Best chili dogs in all the land!

I spent a lot of time in Warren as a kid with my grandparents. Haven't been back since Bob Holmes (my grandpa) passed away, but I miss it. Seeing this website and some pics from it brings back fond memories.
